The founder of Miami’s famous Pubbelly Sushi and La Placita restaurants speaks to us in his own words
Chef José Mendín – founder of Miami’s famous Pubbelly Sushi and La Placita restaurants – is this week headlining the EasterSeals star-studded culinary event. Mendín, who moved here from Puerto Rico in 1998 to attend Johnson & Wales University, helped to open some of the most coveted restaurants including NOBU Miami, NOBU London, Sushisamba Las Vegas, Mercadito Chicago, and Mercadito Miami. For his own establishments, he’s won the StarChefs Rising Star Restaurateur Award and is a five-time semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation Award for “Best Chef: Southeast.”
