The American Nicaraguan Foundation (ANF) will once again host its annual Gala at the InterContinental Hotel in Downtown Miami on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 7 p.m. The 2013 Emerald Gala – A Treasured Past. A Brilliant Future, will benefit the fight against poverty in the neediest sectors of Nicaragua and will be co-chaired by Theresa C. Pellas, Maria Healy and Gabriela Terán. Last year the Gala raised over $700,000 for the cause, and the goal this year is to surpass $1 million.
Over 500 guests are expected to attend this year’s event, including Gala honorees F. Alfredo Pellas Chamorro Sr. & Carmen Ch. de Pellas and Robin Mahfood, President & CEO of Food For The Poor, Inc. The elegant affair is a very social event and a must-attend for the Latin American and philanthropic communities in South Florida.
“We like to include many surprise elements so we can keep our guests on their toes. Last year there were mini confetti bursts from the tables and a video presentation that didn’t leave a dry eye in the room,” commented Theresa Pellas, Vice President and Co-Founder of ANF.
This event is the main fundraiser for all of ANF’s programs and is vital to the Foundation’s success each year. Through ticket sales and the silent and live auction, The American Nicaraguan Foundation has brought more than 5,400 ocean containers of aid, valued at more than $1.5 billion, to support the work of over 1,600 local organizations in the last 20 years. Proceeds of the gala every year fund programs for clean water, healthcare, building homes, and providing education for the children of the greatest poverty stricken areas in Nicaragua.
