Americans for Immigrant Justice’s Annual Awards Dinner – Upholding the American Dream – is the organization’s signature event, for both increasing community awareness and for fundraising. Consistently attended by 500 of South Florida’s civic, legal, economic, social and educational leaders, the dinner highlights AI Justice’s work and its clients. McAliley will receive the Holly Skolnick Human Rights Award and the America’s Immigrant Spirit Award will be presented to Dr. Zakia Subhani. Prior honorees include Edwidge Danticat, Lida Rodriguez-Taseff, Jonathan Demme and Manuel Medina. Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist Sonia Nazario will deliver remarks. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by a seated dinner and a dessert lounge with live entertainment. The Annual Awards Dinner is an opportunity to commit to the vital work being done on behalf of all of us who value justice and believe in defending the rights of those who can least defend themselves. The proceeds raised from this event make it possible for AI Justice to continue Upholding the American Dream.

About Americans for Immigrant Justice

Americans for Immigrant Justice is an award-winning non-profit law and advocacy firm that protects and promotes the basic human rights of immigrants. In Florida and on a national level, it champions the rights of unaccompanied immigrant children; advocates for survivors of trafficking and domestic violence; serves as a watchdog on immigration detention practices and policies; and speaks for immigrant groups who have compelling claims to justice.

AI Justice has served over 90,000 immigrants from all over the world since its founding. In 2014, AI Justice served over 2,700 unaccompanied immigrant children; 300 survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking and their children; nearly 300 people in immigration custody; and approximately 600 low-income immigrants seeking assistance with work permits, legal permanent residence, asylum, or citizenship. AI Justice is also leading a campaign through legislation, litigation, and advocacy to ensure humane treatment of people detained by Customs and Border Protection.
