About Take Stock in Children
Today, one in three children in Florida lives in poverty and the numbers have increased in each of the last five years. Studies show that less than half of students in Florida living in poverty will graduate high school, and of those students who do graduate high school, only half will go on to attend college. Of those who do attend college, less than 1 in 5 will complete their degree. Consequently, only 5% of Florida’s students in poverty attain a post-secondary education.
Established in 1995, Take Stock in Children, provides a unique opportunity for these deserving low-income youth to escape the cycle of poverty through education. By setting the educational pathway to professional success for Florida’s deserving, low-income students, Take Stock in Children has helped over 24,000 students in Florida graduate from high school, become college prepared, college bound and career ready. Take Stock in Children scholars are encouraged and empowered to pursue their dreams and become the college-educated leaders our families, businesses and communities need in order to prosper.
We achieve success through an innovative multi-year program model of mentorship, case management, accountability, college and career readiness programming and by providing each Take Stock in Children student a Florida pre-paid scholarship. Our impact is measurable; 96% of our students graduate high school, 87% enroll in college, and 59% complete a degree.
