About Belen Jesuit Preparatory School

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami celebrated its Golden Jubilee during the 2011-2012 academic year. The Jesuits founded the school in 1854 in Havana, Cuba. In 1961, Belen and all private schools were confiscated by the new political regime. The school was re-established in Miami that same year and has grown tremendously over the last five decades.

In 1962, the School acquired its own building and moved to a new site on the corner of S.W. 8th Street and 7th Avenue in Miami. It remained there until 1981 when the school moved to its current location; a 33-acre site in western Dade County. Beginning in 1992 the school entered a period of expansion, which began, with the renovation of the library, multiple computer labs were built as well as an athletic center and the numbers of classrooms were increased. In October 2003, the school inaugurated The Ignatian Center for the Arts, offering theatrical and musical performances, as well as, art exhibits throughout the year.

Currently the School is made up of 73 classrooms, science building, theater, library, art gallery, computer room, laboratories, communications center, cafeteria, chapel, sports courts, tennis, track, soccer field, gym, pool, administration building and alumni house.

Since its inception, over 6,000 young men have graduated from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School. We are a college preparatory institution, with 100% of our graduates advancing to post-secondary education. Currently the enrollment is nearly 1,500 male students in grades 6 to 12.

The school has received numerous accolades in both athletics and academics; including being named for the seventh consecutive year one of the Top 50 U.S. Catholic High Schools by the National Catholic High School Honor Roll in 2012.
