HistoryMiami Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate, will be dancing through the decades at its third annual Flamingo Ball, presented by Hialeah Park, on Saturday, April 6, 2019.

This year’s festive event will benefit HistoryMiami Museum and treat more than 250 of the city’s top philanthropists and VIPs to a lavish stone crab buffet with champagne and signature cocktails, live performances and a special awards ceremony.

HistoryMiami Museum will honor Ryder System, Inc. and Jim Ryder’s legacy with the 2019 Henry Flagler Award. Ryder System, Inc. is one of North America’s largest fleet of trucks, operating behind the scenes, managing critical fleet, transportation and supply chain functions for over 50,000 customers, many of which make the products that consumers use every day. Ryder System, Inc. started as a truck rental company in Miami back in 1933 by Jim Ryder and is now a Fortune 500 Company in South Florida. The award is a tribute to Henry Flagler, a pioneer who had the vision and ambition to bring his railroad to Miami and develop a small coastal town into a sprawling Magic City.

Former US Senator and Florida Governor Bob Graham, Adele Graham, Suzanne & Tom Gibson

HistoryMiami would like to thank the night’s Presenting Sponsor Hialeah Park, Platinum Sponsor Ryder System, Inc., and Silver Sponsors Alex and Jessica Dominguez, AT&T, Avison Young/Michael & Paula Fay, Baptist Health South Florida, Bermont Advisory Group, Brian Barroso, Amerant Bank, Candido Viyella, Managing Director, Morgan Stanley, Dr. Wasim Shomar and Ms. Rania Yousef. FPL, Julie and Michael Weiser, Luis de la Aguilera, U.S. Century Bank, Mark Migdal & Hayden. Michael A. Carricarte, Sr., Shubin & Bass, P.A., and The Jain and Lagoa Foundation.

The Flamingo Ball, named after the beautiful birds that inhabit Hialeah Park’s infield lake, was first held in 1965 on the eve of the Flamingo Stakes horse race at Hialeah Racetrack. After a lapse of a few years, the lavish pink social confection is back and is paying tribute to when Hialeah Park first opened for horse racing in January 1925, with a roaring twenties theme.

This year’s theme, “Miami Through the Decades,” is a nod to the museum’s newest photography exhibition, Miami: The Magic City, an exhibition showcasing some of the best images from the museum’s vast photography collection depicting Miami over the years.

In the ‘70s the gleaming gala grew into one of the most glamorous and legendary parties in Miami attended by the rich and famous, powerful families, dignitaries, city and government leaders, equestrians and socialites. Notable partakers included: Jacqueline Kennedy, Horatio and Frances Luro, Leslie Combs, Juliette and David Trapp, Oleg Cassini, Harry Guggenheim, David Brinkley, Marylou and Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney, Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower and movie stars by the dozens.

For more information on sponsorship packages and individual tickets, please contact Leana Cianfoni by email. Community members interested in attending are encouraged to purchase tickets by March 30. Tickets are $400 and can be purchased online at www.HistoryMiami.org.
