About Miami Lighthouse for the Blind & Visually Impaired

Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired started in 1931 in a 900 square-foot bungalow on the corner of S.W. 6th Street and 8th Avenue, and still our location after all these years. Today Miami Lighthouse has a state-of-the-art facility where people who are blind or visually impaired receive vision rehabilitation, low vision services, Braille and technology instruction and much more, depending on their needs. Miami Lighthouse has received Charity Navigator’s coveted 4-star rating for 5 consecutive evaluations. Only 4% of the charities rated have earned this distinction indicating that Miami Lighthouse consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America.
