DavidBartonGym to Open at Gansevoort South

45,000 Square Feet and first-ever David Barton Spa

David Barton will open his newest and largest gym, to date, at the Gansevoort South. The bi-level gym will infuse North African designs throughout the 45,000 square-foot space. Additionally, Barton’s second Miami-area gym will introduce the David Barton Spa.

“This new location is the first of seven gyms that I’m opening around the country over the next two years. No beach demands a rock hard body more than South Beach and no city demands a cool place to work out more than the jet set Mecca of Miami,” said Barton.

Upon entering the gym, members and guests will be transported by escalator to a towering lobby illuminated by reflecting pools and a 30-foot domed glass ceiling swathed in hundreds of yards of custom tie-dyed t-shirt cotton where a hand-inlaid mosaic floor conjures images of Morocco, not unlike that of David Cronenberg’s Naked Lunch. Just beyond the entrance is a 10,000 square-foot space dedicated to free weights and strength training equipment. Members will work out to a rotating roster of D.J.s from across the country, suspended above the gym floor on a monumental 50-foot sculpture designed by Franco Moschetti and John Cory.

“I always fantasized about working out in I Dream of Jeannie’s bottle. I am now bringing this fantasy to life in my South Beach Gym, though it will look more like the bottle lived in by that dark twin sister of hers…” says Barton.

As at every DavidBartonGym, each class will be led by expert trainers who follow Barton’s key philosophy that re-shaping the body is an art form. This new South Beach location will introduce several new classes, including “Melt,” designed to burn excess fat using low weight and high reps, and “Slo-gasmic,” which will awaken muscles that even fitness enthusiasts never knew existed through negative repetitions, unconventional exercises and isometrics. Five studios for Pilates, kickboxing, yoga, indoor cycling and group exercise will be located on the mezzanine level offering a peep show of bodies on the weight floor.

Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is the first ever DavidBartonSpa. Guests can sit barefoot in this casual space, reminiscent of a Nantucket Beach House, with sun bleached wood floors and hand-carved, driftwood furniture. The 10,000 square-foot space will offer an aromatherapy steam room, 10 treatment rooms, rejuvenating beauty treatments, invigorating deep tissue massages and a couples massage lounge with ocean view. While the atmosphere provides a relaxed and laid back setting, the spa treatments are serious, targeted and designed to maximize external beauty. A spa equipped to revive patrons recovering from the previous night’s revelries and get them looking as good as they can for the night ahead.

“They say beauty comes from within,” said Barton. “I say, let’s help it along.”

Just steps away from the spa, guests can enjoy drinks in a boardwalk setting by the outdoor pool, complete with comfortable lounge chairs and a great view of the ocean. A juice bar serves freshly made juices, shakes and light snacks. The outdoor pool will also feature private spa treatments, water exercise programs, poolside yoga classes at sunset and, of course, cocktails.
