As temperatures drop, many New Yorkers head south to the warmer confines of Miami. The winter migration is only one aspect of New York’s influence on South Florida. Another inspiration making its way into the Miami mainstream is of the scented variety – Bond No. 9 NYC. The New York-based perfumery has released an Andy Warhol fragrance, as well as its new Signature Scent.

Perfumes have always attracted the elusive and taboo and what could be more elusive, particularly in these economic times, than money? The edgy, downtown New York perfumery Bond No. 9 presents the first money-oriented perfume, a $cent as $eductively $weet as a dollar sign. Success is a Job in New York is the latest Bond No. 9 series of collectible Andy Warhol eaux de parfum and cash is both the inspiration and focus.

Success claims to break the rules of romantic perfume subjects, but it does suit the Warholian consumer sensibility. Throughout his career, Warhol was fascinated with the connections between art and money. In the ‘60s, he painted Pop Art canvases with grids of banknotes, and he stuffed dollar bills into soup cans. Then in the early ‘80s, just as Reaganomics and Dynasty got under way and paintings became consumer items, he isolated the image of the dollar sign—sinuous yet with that ominous slash down the center—in a series of silk-screened “portraits.”

Appearing on both sides of the Success bottle is an image of one of Warhol’s iconic subjects, The Almighty Dollar Sign created by Warhol in 1981. The scent is homage to Warhol’s first assignment in the 1950s as an illustrator for a Glamour magazine article entitled “Success is a Job in New York.”

In 2007, Bond No. 9 partnered with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to develop a line of collectible fragrances which bear the artist’s work. As part of the collaboration, a portion of the proceeds from all Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol fragrances goes to promote the visual arts.

In stores now, Andy Warhol Success is a Job in New York, just like money was created to lure and intoxicate all who give it a sniff. With spicy-citrus top notes – coriander, cardamom, mandarin, bergamot – leading into jasmine, tuberose, rose, plum and pimento to finally segue into an oriental base of vanilla, patchouli and amber, Success is a titillating scent and perfect gift for the tongue-in-cheek, cash-loving friend.

Bond No. 9 is a perfumery in New York City, the address of its headquarters’ boutique at 9 Bond Street, in NoHo, dedicated to celebrating and capturing the essence of New York neighborhoods. The Bond No. 9 collection — 39 women’s, men’s, and unisex eaux de parfum — has a dual mission: to restore artistry to perfumery, and to mark every New York neighborhood with a scent of its own. Each fragrance represents a specific downtown, midtown, or uptown locale or a city-wide sensibility.

The scent was launched in 2003 after Bond No. 9 founder and president Laurice Rahme wanted to pay tribute to her favorite city.

“After September 11, I wanted to celebrate New York and after the attacks the city smelled awful for months. I wanted to make New York smell good again.” Rahme said.

Two years later Bond No. 9 partnered with New York brand Saks Fifth Avuenue to unveil 16 scents representing five uptown neighborhoods, five downtown neighborhoods and six from midtown. Now, the perfumery is finally celebrating its own NoHo neighborhood called, Bond No. 9 Signature.

Instead of the customary 20 percent eaux de parfum, in all Bond No. 9 fragrances, Signature contains a 30 percent concentration, moving it into the rare pure perfume category. And it is described as a distinctly night-time experience.

Success is a Job in New York and Bond No. 9 Signature have brought the sophisticated scents of the Big Apple south to Miami and fittingly enough, it’s New York’s very own Saks Fifth Avenue that makes it available.
