Basilio Marquez Jr. was born in 1990 into a family of prestigious musicians in Las Tunas, Cuba. His father, Basilio Marquez, played trumpet in Chucho Valdés’ pioneering Latin jazz band Irakere. Marquez began studying music at 4 years old and in 2007 became a professional trumpeter. He moved to Miami in 2019 and the following year created a traditional Cuban music project that performs throughout Miami-Dade County.
