SocialMiami’s Decision to Publish in Light of Attacks on Israel

To the Miami Community,

In light of the war against Israel, SocialMiami considered carefully whether to this week publish its regularly scheduled content. In Miami, we are far from the violence but feel pain in our hearts as the people of Israel suffer. We agonize and grieve with them. SocialMiami’s pages are filled with photos of people having the good fortune to live in glamourous freedom.

Ultimately, our editors here and Atlanta decided not to turn off our lights, but instead to use our platform shine brightness on a fund started by our partners at the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. GMJF is also organizing a rally.

After that, you’ll find pieces by SocialMiami columnists, all who are involved in so many valuable causes. This week we introduce to our readers the essay of Gabrielle Anwar, an activist and actress who is on the board of Pikler USA, speaking frequently on early childhood care and its direct relation to mental health, most recently to congress in Washington D.C. And we publish the coveted photo column by Manny Hernandez, who has been recognized for his community service by our partners at Ronald McDonald House Charities and is a man our readers welcome with joy at their fundraising events.

So as we at SocialMiami work to support Israel, we also fight to keep illuminating the people and the organizations that make Miami a community strong enough to support those here and abroad.

We know you must have a unique perspective on the issues. Email me at brett@socialmiami.com and include whether you’d like to see your letter published. We believe sharing ideas is a constructive way to speak up.

Thank you,
