After a shuttling in and around Manhattan for a week of countless fashion shows, my NYFW Spring2018 expedition was not simply all over town, but the shows content was aesthetically all over the map. End result? Something for everyone! Diversity in size and shape was the overall story here in the casting of models as well as the unique balance of soft and hard silhouettes, textures and attitudes.
Standouts were the bright flashes of vibrant colors—racy red and sunshine yellow freshened up the predictable palette of black and white while pink is the strong contender for the Color of Season for Spring 2018. And we know how Florida feels about pink!Â
There was a storyline or a nod to days gone by in most of the designers’ confident collections: an ethereal Parisian Ballet of sheer elegance in the dream-world staging at Naeem Khan; grungy layered references of the 90’s at Marc Jacobs; complete creative expression in wearable pieces at Creatures of the Wind; American Horror Story magnified at Calvin Klein; Old Hollywood allure in MOMA at Carolina Herrera; a very feminine vibe fit for life’s most romantic moments at Brock Collection; fantastical flirty flourishes in Fairyland at Marchesa; the quintessential off-hand chic in print and color at Delpozo; passionate glamour at BadgleyMischa; upbeat, sharp and sassy at Libertine(it was bananas!);charming evening dresses with exquisite embellishments at Angel Sanchez; and a rock n’ roll eclectic spirit at Alice & Olivia.
