4th Annual Zachor Society Reception Honors Founders and

Commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach

A crowd of more than 100 people gathered to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach (HMMB), a Committee of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and the 70th Anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps at the fourth annual Zachor Society reception, held at the New World Center in Miami Beach on Tuesday, May 12.

Co-chaired this year by Founding Chairman of the Memorial Norman Braman, Chair of the Memorial Andrew C. Hall, Esq. and Federation Past President Ezra Katz, the event honored the Founding Members of the Memorial: Norman Braman, Jack Chester (z”l), Dr. Helen Fagin, George Goldbloom (z”l), Selig Golen, Ezra Katz, Abe Resnick (z”l), David Schaecter, Rabbi Solomon Schiff, Harry B. Smith, Kenneth Treister, Artist and Sculptor. Honorees were presented with a framed etching of the Memorial’s noted sculpture. The night also featured a special performance by the New World Symphony Fellows. The quartet performed the music of talented artists who composed their work during the Holocaust. Some of the compositions played were the singular musical piece that survived.

The Zachor Society helps to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive through its support of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach. The society – whose name means “remember” – recognizes donors whose contributions help maintain this crucial landmark in our community. With a gift of $5,000 or more annually, Zachor Society members help preserve the actual structure of the Memorial and ensure the mission of educating present and future generations about the Holocaust.

Donations enable the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach to welcome more than 100,000 visitors annually, including visits by 30,000 schoolchildren who participate in educational programs about the Holocaust. The Memorial opens its doors to teachers, college students and professors as well. There is no charge to visit the Holocaust Memorial or attend its programs.

Andrew C. Hall, Esq. is the Chair of the Holocaust Memorial and Rabbi Solomon Schiff is the Immediate Past Chair. Robert G. Berrin is the Board Chair of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and Brian L. Bilzin is the Immediate Past Board Chair.
