Magazine Mentions
Congratulations to Liberty City’s Barry Jenkins, director of the Academy Award-winning Moonlight and the upcoming film If Beale Street Could Talk, for making Ebony magazine’s list of 100 Power Honorees. Forbes magazine, meanwhile, put out its definitive ranking of wealthy Americans and the Miamians included on those prestigious pages include condo developer and museum philanthropist Jorge M. Pérez, Miami Heat owner Micky Arison, auto dealer Norman Braman and airline magnate Rakesh Gangwai.
Sipping Toast and Saving Animals
Advocates made time to Sip, Shop & Save the Animals, an event to benefit The Humane Society of Greater Miami. Held at The National Hotel, philanthropist Angela Birdman hosted and Toast Vodka sponsored the event where guests sipped on cocktails while shopping for luxury handbags from Yara Bashoor, candles from ScentsAbility, designer jewelry and the latest color cosmetics from Beauty for Real.
Natural Talent
When the Biscayne Nature Center planted three Lignum Vitae trees in its newly landscaped ceremonial circle, the environmentalists there were treated to more natural sounds than they planned. That’s because Grammy nominated Keith Porter happened to be in attendance and sang three songs for guests, says executive director Theodora Long, including “I Did it My Way,” “Don’t Worry Be Happy” and “Danny Boy” but changing the words to Bobby Boy, as the trees were planted to honor the life of Bob Byrne, a BNC donor and supporter who had himself dug soil for over 5000 roots over the years. The ceremony followed by a cocktail reception at no name harbor.
