SEED School of Miami Celebrates Opening

Friends and supporters of The SEED School of Miami gathered at the home of Claudia and Carlos de la Cruz, Jr. to celebrate South Florida’s first college preparatory, public boarding school. SEED Miami opened its doors to 60 sixth-graders this past August; it is the third school to be established by The SEED Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit. The event featured a keynote speech by New York Times op-ed columnist and three-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Thomas Friedman, who spoke to the assembled crowd about the changing digital landscape and its impact on the role of education today. Two graduates of The SEED School of Washington, D.C., The SEED Foundation’s flagship school, also joined guests in order to share some of their unique educational experiences.
