Americans for Immigrant Justice held its 18th Annual Awards Dinner – Upholding the American Dream – at the Hotel InterContinental, with over 550 of South Florida’s business and civic leaders in attendance. Honorary Chairs Cesar Alvarez and the Hon. Cristina Pereyra brought their own magic to the evening. The guests enjoyed the fabulous evening with Academy Award Winner Anne Hathaway, and were inspired by the remarks of Manuel Medina, recipient of the America’s Immigrant Spirit Award, and Jonathan Demme, recipient of the Holly Skolnick Human Rights Award. The honorees were presented with historic Miami photographs, specially selected by historian Seth Bramson. The efforts of Dinner Co-Chairs Keith Askins & Paulina Holguin Askins and David Barbeito & Naive Pons helped to ensure that the evening was a success. A generous $50,000 matching grant from the TriMix Foundation provided further inspiration everyone to support the work of AI Justice.
The theme of the evening was reflected in the short film by Miami filmmaker Oscar Corral that premiered at the event.
