Alfalit Honors Joseph Milton at Star-Studded Gala
“Dancing with the Stars” champion Maksim Chmerkovsky and veteran TV and Broadway star John O’Hurley will lead the festivities at Alfalit International’s gala event to honor Joseph Milton, the organization’s new Board president. Milton will receive the Alfalit Founders Award on Saturday, September 27, at the InterContinental Miami Hotel.
Milton became a member of Alfalit’s Board more than 20 years ago and has been a tireless advocate for providing education to the neediest people in the poorest places in the world. “With over 800 million illiterate people throughout the world, there is so much work still ahead for us as we continue to sustain and expand our programs in Latin American and Africa,” said Milton.
Alfalit International celebrates 53 years of bringing hope and opportunity through literacy, having taught reading, writing and math to over eight million children and adults. The organization currently serves 24 countries throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Portugal. Alfalit has been recognized at White House Conferences on Global Literacy and has received honors, including the highest award for literacy development from UNESCO.
A prominent South Florida business leader, Milton serves as President and CEO of J. Milton & Associates, a real estate development company that has built over 50,000 residential units. Its luxury development division has built six prestige properties in Sunny Isles Beach, along with its newest project, Parque Towers. J. Milton & Associates is also one of the largest owners and managers of rental communities in South Florida, including the latest, Miami Bay Midtown Residences, located on Biscayne Bay at N.E. 39th Street.
Friends and supporters of Alfalit will be on hand to honor Milton at the 2014 Global Literacy Dinner and to celebrate the nonprofit’s educational programs that have changed the lives of millions for generations to come.
