Alonzo Mourning Celebrates NBA Career In Style
After a 15-season professional basketball career, Alonzo Mourning officially celebrated his retirement from the NBA – in style, of course at a VIP soiree. The Miami Beach celebration was hosted at Caribbean Condominiums in part by David F. Christa of Christa Construction, and highlights included Dwayne Wade, Udonis Haslem and Dorell Wright’s gift to Mourning – a customized golf cart!
Celebrities who walked the red carpet event included Tracy Wilson Mourning, Chris Tucker, Dennis Rodman, Dr. J, Eddie Jones, Tim Hardaway, DJ Irie, John Cross (a.k.a. Footy), Curtis Martin, Pepa (of Salt-N-Pepa), Glen Rice, Duane Starks, Tom Joyner, Jamaal Magloire, Edgerrin James, Terrell Owens, Dwyane Wade, Udonis Haslem, Dorell Wright, Jackie Nespral, Jim Berry, and Diana Diaz.
DJ Irie kept guests grooving to tunes all evening while MAZE featuring Frankie Beverly put on a special performance. Dr. J and Tim Hardaway presented heartfelt speeches to Mourning, and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz presented Mourning with a proclamation to declare March 27th as “Alonzo Mourning Day” in Miami, Florida. Fabulous fare was provided by Philippe Chow, Chef Creole, and Giardino Gourmet Salads.
Mourning is a NBA Champion, seven-time NBA All-Star, gold medalist on the United States Senior National team at the 2000 Olympics, transplant survivor, author, and founder of Alonzo Mourning Charities.
