Opening August 21 at Aventura Mall

Barneys New York is about taste, luxury and humor, and has been so since 1923. Now, the style laboratory for this famed department store, Barneys CO-OP, is slated to open at Aventura Mall on August 21.

The CO-OP is a place where age means diddly. They cater to chicks and blokes of all ages who love the downtown cool of the CO-OP, although the CO-OP’s target customer is an independent thinking, confident person from ages 15 to 35. The age barriers blur in the CO-OP because it’s more about a lifestyle and less about a number.

Some of Barneys CO-OP’s hottest lines include Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone and Current/Elliot to name just a few. The Aventura Mall location will also carry Laila Azhar. This Moroccan born designer launched her first collection in 2005 after attending the Parsons School of Design. Her line is not featured at other Barneys CO-OP locations and is currently exclusive to the Aventura Mall locale.

The newest CO-OP trends include leather, leggings, distressed denim and the color purple. Leather jackets can be worn with tanks or sleeveless tops underneath. Leggings are bought in lightweights and can be worn with tunic tops, long cardigans or under dresses. Distressed is a given.

But don’t despair; Barneys CO-OP also carries a full line of accessories in addition to apparel. There are jewelry, handbags, sunglasses and belts.

And if you’re wondering what the number-one Barneys CO-OP “must have” item is, there is no definite answer. There are many “must haves” in the CO-OP, but two very “hot” pieces are an Alexander Wang leather vest, and a pair of Current/Elliot boyfriend jeans.
