Beyond Basel Cocktail Party and Art Exhibit

More than 250 people from across South Florida attended an exclusive Beyond Basel cocktail party and art exhibit at the Soho Beach House during Miami’s Art Basel. This invite-only event benefited leading type 1 diabetes organizations the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) and Beyond Type 1 – which was co-founded by musician and movie star Nick Jonas – and this season’s Bravo TV Top Chef All Stars contestant celebrity chef Sam Talbot. Both Talbot and Jonas have type 1 diabetes, and Jonas first publicly announced he suffered from the disease at a Diabetes Research Institute Foundation event in 2007.

Guests enjoyed wine from The Drop, specialty Essentia water, signature cocktails, light bites, a DJ spinning through the night. They also got a chance to bid on original artwork, a custom tattoo, an autographed Epiphone Les Paul Guitar from Nick Jonas, Cocktails and Brunch for 8 at home by Chef Talbot, and a photo of NBA Legend and former Miami HEAT star Ray Allen’s “The Shot” – which his wife Shannon Allen personally presented to the winning bidders and even included a special meet and greet with the star at a later date. The evening also featured three talented artists – who are all thriving in their careers despite living with type 1 diabetes – and their work:

Miami-based tattoo artist Darren Brass, Houston-based multi-media artist Natalie Irish and New York-based street artist, photographer and sculptor Appleton.
