Chicago comes to Miami
Arts Miami with Anthony Japour
Acre Residency and Cooperative Exhibition Project (also known as ACRE Projects) is a residency program based in Chicago that hosts over 90 residents, artists, writers, musicians, and art critics each summer at their lodge in rural Steuben, Wisconsin.
During the year ACRE shows their residents work at their own gallery in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago as well as at partner galleries across the city. This year, for the first time, ACRE left their pastoral origins and headed to Miami with a jam-packed program of exhibitions, projects and performances.
ACRE Projects hosted a library in the lobby of the NADA Art Fair at the Deauville hotel, where visitors sat around a [fake] fire and perused artists books and small editions. They also produced a daily newspaper, the ACRE PAPER, which highlighted events during the Basel week.
As if that was not enough, ACRE also installed a two part exhibition in the Design District’s Buena Vista Building that showed alongside the Design Miami Designer of the Year: Vito Acconci Studio; as well as Architecture for Dogs, Storefront presented by the de la Cruz Collection and Miami Design District Associates, Inventory 3 and a myriad of other exhibitions and art happenings.
Their galleries in the Design District featured work from more than 40 residents, including Kristina Paabus, Matt Nichols, Steven Frost, Heidi Norton and Sofia Leiby. Keep an eye out for ACRE’s emerging artist roster and more pop-up projects and exhibitions.
ACRE’s participation in the Design District’s program of events during Art Basel week strengthens the bond between the Miami art scene and other burgeoning art scenes around the country, which will continue to enrich our cultural community.
