Coral Gables Summer Arts Exhibitions

Virginia Miller, Jorge Sori and The Americas Collection

ArtSpace Virginia Miller Galleries

See important works by Latin American artists on view in “Joyas Latinoamericanas.” Works by master artists in the exhibition include a powerful, 78-inch expressionist canvas of a fighting cock done in 1993 by Arnaldo Roche-Rabell, a leading Puerto Rican painter; and three large oils from 1989 and 1991 by Elmar Rojas, whose canvases frequently refer to the folklore of his native Guatemala.

“This year’s strained international economy has a bright side: the sale of long-cherished works of art by private owners offers art lovers an extraordinary opportunity to view older works considered ‘jewels’ that seldom come on the art market,” said gallery owner and director Virginia Miller.

Other master works in the show include a five-foot canvas by one of Brazil’s foremost painters, Antonio Amaral; a 1994 canvas by Ramón Oviedo, the Dominican Republic’s great master artist; a large 1984 oil by Gina Pellón, a well-known Cuban artist; and a 1970s drawing by Francisco Toledo, one of the most important living Mexican artists.

Located in the heart of the Coral Gables business district at 169 Madeira Avenue, ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries is Greater Miami’s longest-established contemporary fine art gallery. It is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturdays by appointment. For more information, visit virginiamiller.com or call 305-444-4493.

Jorge M. Sori Fine Art

Brazilian-born Renato Meziat ranks among the top notch contemporary realist painters, influenced by the works of Chilean master Claudio Bravo. Well cultured and an attentive observer of the different “realities” that surround him, Meziat searches in art for the means to become a man of the 21st century.

Self-taught and “born to paint,” Meziat’s shows us work with remarkable simplicity and elegance. He is tremendously skilled in the handling of shades and colors. Never academic, his compositions are always well balanced and sophisticated.

Meziat’s paintings are in private collections throughout North and South America and Europe. See the recent works of Renato Meziat at Jorge M. Sori Fine Art through June and July.

Esablished in Coral Gables in 1991, Jorge M. Sori Fine Art is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays and Mondays by appointment.
