The American Cancer Society 2016 “Dancing for a Cause” Miami Annual Gala, presented by The Miami Cancer Institute/Baptist Health South Florida, took place Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the beautiful JW Marriott Marquis. Over 800 influential
leaders within Miami’s social and corporate communities gathered for a night of elegance, exquisite food, and live entertainment. The cocktail reception also featured a fabulous silent auction which included, cruises, trips, jewelry, art collections, golf packages, and much more!

Chairpersons for this year’s gala fundraiser were Ana Ortega and daughter Ana Mari Ortega, Co-Chair Pepe Freixas and Honorary Chairs Christina and David Martin. This year’s honorees, recognized for their philanthropy and dedication to the community and for their continued fight against cancer, was Miami’s power couple Lilliam and Gus Machado.

Together with the help of the Gala committee, volunteers and sponsors, the American Cancer Society Miami Annual Gala raised over $1 Million.

This year was very special as five dance performances led by our Gala Chair Ana Ortega, our Gala Co-Chair Pepe Freixas and celebrity guests Pamela Silva Conde from Univision, Alina Mayo-Azze and William Valdes from Despierta America were all “Dancing for a Cause” with the professionals from Fred Astaire Dance Studio Coral Gables. These five couples were all dancing to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

From its beginning, the American Cancer Society has been the leading force in the fight against cancer. Now, over 100 years later, they can envision the end of cancer as we know it – from deadly to treatable, from curable to preventable. One hundred years ago, we began the fight of a lifetime. Now it’s time to finish it!
