Arguably no one is more responsible for propagating and embodying the idea of the deejay as “artist” than Paul Miller as DJ Spooky. Rebirth of a Nation is DJ Spooky’s creation that can produce not only new thoughts, but new ways of thinking. This film project is based on a remix of D.W. Griffith’s infamous and racist 1915 film The Birth of a Nation. The original film was based on a novel and theater play by Thomas Dixon titled The Clansmen. DJ Spooky applies DJ techniques to cinema in a way that parallels, deconstructs and remixes the original film, thus challenging our legacy of revisionist history. Tickets are $25.
