About Dolphins Challenge Cancer – Team Hurricanes

Originally called the Dolphins Cycling Challenge, the Dolphins Challenge Cancer was founded in 2010 by the Miami Dolphins organization to honor former Dolphins’ tight end Jim “Mad Dog” Mandich, as he battled bile duct cancer.

The DCC has carried on Mandich’s legacy ever since – capturing the South Florida community’s resiliency and camaraderie in an annual event that has become the #1 fundraising event in the NFL.

The DCC has become a year-round movement that focuses on challenging cancer every day, and that fuels live-saving and cutting-edge research at the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center – the only NCI-Designated Cancer Center in South Florida.

To date, the DCC has directed more than $53.9 million towards challenging cancer and has become the can’t-miss community event of the year – hosting hundreds of teams, and thousands of participants. This year’s fundraising goal is $10 Million, with 100% of participant-dollars raised challenging cancer.

Team Hurricanes is the largest organization at the DCC, and the home to more than 1,500 University of Miami employees, faculty, staff, students and alumni that participate.
