Join Miami City Ballet for an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at the art of ballet at the Arsht Center’s Free Family Fest!. Learn how ballet began, what it takes to become a professional ballet dancer and how a ballet is created. You’ll see excerpts by the MCB School Ensemble, including two classics by Marius Petipa: the famed fairy-tale ballet The Sleeping Beauty, featuring Puss N’ Boots, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood. Also enjoy George Balanchine’s salute to the U.S.A. — the high-spirited Stars and Stripes — with all-American costumes, sets and music (danced to the patriotic marches of John Philip Sousa). Closing the program is an excerpt from one of Balanchine’s most charming works, the joyful Bourrée Fantasque, danced by Company Dancers to the sparkling music of Emmanuel Chabrier. This program will be enjoyed by the whole family! Family Fest offers free family-friendly performances ranging from musicians to performing artists. Admission is free, but First-Access Passes are required for each member of your party. Those without Pass will be seated from stand-by line (beginning at 1 p.m.) on a first-come, first-served basis.
