The author of the National Book Award-winning novel Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison was an accomplished trumpeter and associate of many of the great jazz innovators of his lifetime – from Armstrong and Ellington to Bird and Monk. The evening will be pulsing with music, readings, photographs, paintings and video, vividly bringing to life one of the most dynamic eras in American jazz history. The concert will be enriched by educational opportunities featuring Columbia University Jazz and Ellison scholar Bob O’Meally, joined by performers: vocalists Will Downing, Nona Hendryx and Quiana Lynell; trumpeter Nicholas Payton, The Andy Farber Orchestra and more. Six-concert subscriptions range from $232 to $760.
