The Miami Design District, in collaboration with the de la Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space, will host the latest edition of the Miami Design District & de La Cruz Collection Lecture Series, an evening lecture with artist/writer/musician/actor Kim Gordon in conversation with Amanda Keeley, founder of Exile Books. Kim Gordon, best known as the lead singer for the vanguard alternative rock band Sonic Youth, has since the 80s influenced the indie music scene. Her artistry transcends her music, and her multifaceted career also extends to visual art, curation, acting and most recently writing, publishing her memoir, “A Girl in Band.” The book focuses on her extensive life, following her early move from East to West Coast and back again, her friendships with fellow musician Kurt Cobain, and designer Marc Jacobs, and the creation of her band Sonic Youth with former husband, Thurston Moore. Body/Head, her new music endeavor with friend Bill Mace, will cap off the night. Free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m.; talk at 7. RSVP please.
