La Traviata
Concerts & PerformancesMiami Lyric Opera will present two performances of La Traviata with Maryann Mootos as Violetta, Jorge Pita Carreras as Alfredo Germont, Nicola Zaccardi as Giorgio Germont, Leyla Martinucci as Flora and other fine artists. Alexander Dumas was inspired in his play “La Dame aux Camelias” (The Lady of the Camellias) by the life of Marie Duplessi a beautiful and young courtesan in Paris of 19th Century. Marie was only 23 when she died of tuberculosis. Verdi was very much attracted by Dumas’s play whose argument used to compose La Traviata (The Fallen Woman). In Verdi’s opera, Violetta Valery’s character represented the young lady desired by most important and rich people of Paris on those days. One day she meets a young man Alfredo with whom for the first time in her life falls in a true and passionate love. Their love was against Alfredo’s father wishes who demands Violetta a supreme sacrifice from her to save the family’s reputation. Her broken heart and the disease that ravages her body bring her to an early and tragic death. Tickets are $27, $37 and $47.
