Miami Lighthouse Celebrates White Cane Day
Charity & Social EventsPut on your sneakers and join Miami Lighthouse for the Blind as they celebrate National White Cane Day starting at 8:30 a.m. Join emcee NBC-6 Chief Meteorologist John Morales, grand marshals Senator Anitere Flores representing the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation, Miami-Dade Commissioner Sally Heyman and Lion Ildefonso Ortega, District Governor for District 35-N. You won’t want to miss keynote speaker Penny Shaffer, Market President of Florida Blue, on how to navigate the healthcare system. An estimated 200 people will walk from Miami Lighthouse, down SW 8th Street and back, where the celebration will continue with food and music featuring musicians from Miami Lighthouse’s Music Program. Event sponsors include Florida Blue, Miami Marlins, Lions for the Blind and Walgreens Store #2544. Enjoy breakfast sponsored by Avison Young, as they celebrate their global day of service, and a special luncheon sponsored by Burger King Store #12778 where prizes will be awarded to the participants who collect the most funds. You can also get your picture taken with Billy the Marlin! $5 suggested contribution for the visually impaired and $20 for all other participants
