Osmo Vänskä is the 10th music director of the acclaimed Minnesota Orchestra and has been widely acclaimed for his interpretations of the Nordic repertory. This season he and the Minnesota Orchestra bring along a masterpiece by Finland’s greatest composer, Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5, which was premiered in 1915. The program also includes the young Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Kalevi Aho’s 2012 Geija, one of the more recent works by a contemporary Finnish composer. Free pre-concert lectures will be held at 7 p.m. at the Arsht Center’s Peacock Education Center in the Knight Concert Hall.
