Nathan Devir, University of Utah, will present “Dispersed Among the Nations: The Lost Tribes of Israel in Madagascar” at the Mkondays at Museum Series. In May 2016, 121 people on the island country of Madagascar formally converted to Orthodox Judaism. Although this mass conversion was the first of its kind to take place on the island, widespread perceptions surrounding Israelite descent in Madagascar go back centuries.
