Internationally renowned opera director and genre-defying multimedia mastermind Jay Scheib is bringing a modern-day version of the classic Bizet Opera, Carmen, to YoungArts. Scheib, a 2011 Guggenheim Fellow and OBIE award-winning director, will work alongside a talented cast of YoungArts alumni to present this multi-dimensional world premiere. Part film, part theater, Scheib’s Carmen includes five interactive vignettes that will be woven together in a live screening on the YoungArts Plaza, where audiences will be greeted with Cuban cigar rollers, rum punch and flamenco dancers.
