Mavra, Igor Stravinsky’s 1922 neo-classical chamber opera in the comic ‘buffa’ tradition of the 18th century raises the curtain on another of Frost Opera Theater’s theatrically compelling evenings of two one-act operas. Ainadamar (Fountain of Tears), by Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov, premiered in 2003, garnered Grammy Awards for Best Opera Recording and Best Classical Contemporary Composition. It portrays the relationship between the great Spanish playwright and poet, Federico Garcia Lorca and the Catalan tragedian Margarita Xirgu. Jeffrey Buchman, guest stage director and Alan Johnson, artistic director. Tickets are $16-$21.
