Federation’s 2014 Main Event Celebrates Community
Benefited the Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign
More than 1,200 members of Miami’s Jewish community came together to support people in need and to celebrate community at the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s 2014 The Main Event.
Chaired this year by Michelle and Bob Diener, The Main Event is Federation’s largest annual community-wide event, raising funds for the Annual Federation/UJA Campaign and helping Jewish people in need in Miami, in Israel and in 70 other countries around the world.
One highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2014 Friend of Israel Humanitarian Award to Maxine and Kenny Schwartz in recognition of their long-standing support of Israel and the Jewish people. For decades, the Schwartzes have been steadfast supporters of Miami’s Jewish community and the people of Israel. In his presentation honoring the Schwartzes, Federation Past President Norman Braman noted that they led Miami’s first mega missions to Israel, inspiring countless others to become involved in the community.
The keynote address for The Main Event was delivered by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. As the nation’s first female Secretary of State, Albright reinforced America’s alliances, advocated democracy and human rights, and promoted American trade, business, labor and environmental standards abroad.
Brian L. Bilzin is Chair of the Board of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and Robert G. Berrin is the General Campaign Chair.
