Gallery Night Sponsors “Celebrate Miami“
As part of the festivities associated with the City of Miami Anniversary celebration, Stella M. Holmes, founder of The Brickellian Inc. and Brickell Gallery Night, hosted a gallery-style event featuring a series of photographs that captured the spirit of the city.
Holmes, who personally selected Brazilian photographer Mariza Formaggini for the exhibit Celebrate Miami, said, “the architectural images exposed the varied cultures of the city as well as the vibrant personality which is Miami.” From Brickell’s visionary architecture to the energy and diversity of Miami, Formaggini’s photographs were well received by guests attending the event, who included Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado.
The exhibit, a series of black-and-white and color images, documents the energy of an exuberant city in motion. The photographer, who traveled from her home in Rio de Janeiro, spent weeks walking the streets of Miami capturing “its atmosphere, its diversity and especially its light, photographing at dawn, at dusk and at noon so I wouldn’t lose the surprises that a blistering sun could reveal.
“I admire this city so full of powerful contrasts,” says Formaggini, who attended the event and discussed her body of work.
Formaggini is one of several artists participating in Holmes’s West Encounters East project, which promotes cultural exchange through the exploration of multicultural expressions in the works of artists with Eastern roots living and working in the West.
