This year on a lovely Miami afternoon, Goodwill South Florida, in lieu of its annual gala, showcased its award-winning band “Spirit of Goodwill.”

The band performed to an audience of over 400 guests at the innovated, state-of-the art New World Center! The audience was packed with board members, community leaders, friends and family. The performance was also streamed live for those that couldn’t make it in person.

This whole-hearted performance was preceded by a proclamation from Miami Beach Vice Mayor and commissioner Alex Fernandez declaring October 22, Goodwill South Florida Day. Goodwill is a visionary organization that prides itself on inclusivity, diversity, and the ability to provide opportunities to those with disabilities and barriers to work.

The musical talents of the Spirit of Goodwill band members -all with a wide range of disabilities- is proof that given the opportunities, we can all accomplish amazing things!  The band gave the performance of a lifetime. Their 15 songs repertoire comprised of a wide range of well-known, popular songs had the audience on their feet and dancing to their beat. It was an afternoon filled with smiles, music, dance and most important hope.

Goodwill South Florida proudly thanks Mr. Edward Shumsky, former past chair and current Goodwill executive board member for bringing together these two organizations, Goodwill and New World Center, under one roof with the same goals, to focus on abilities not on disabilities and to prove that music is the universal language.
