Exhibition encompassing thirty years of the multidisciplinary artist’s career with approximately seventy works including sculptures, paintings, works on paper, installations, and large-scale wall drawings that the artist will create on-site. Since the late 1980s, Simmons has played a key role in situating questions of race, class, and identity as reflected in multiple aspects of American culture such as cinema, music, literature, sports, and urbanism.

Joan Didion: What She Means
Exhibition curated by acclaimed writer Hilton Als and featuring nearly fifty artists including Betye Saar, Vija Celmins, and Felix Gonzalez-Torres.

Yayoi Kusama: Love is Calling
Largest and the most immersive installation of the artist’s Infinity Mirror Rooms featuring a poetry soundtrack exploring enduring themes including life and death.

Madeleine Hunt-Ehrlich: Too Bright to See (Part I)
Experimental film installation focusing on the artist’s extensive research of the overlooked female writer and activist Suzanne Roussi-Césaire

Marcela Cantuária: The South American Dream

PAMMTV’s Perpetual Motion
London’s first streaming-on-demand exhibition features ten moving-image artists exploring the transforming discipline of video art. The foundational media art is curated by Barbara London and contains a global selection of video works confronting how technological change, mass media, and the universality of moving images affect the activity of contemporary artists from South Florida to Hong Kong, Peru, South Korea, and beyond. Participating artists includeKamari Carter, Richard Garet, Bang Geul Han, Cornelia Parker, Wong Ping, Zina Saro-Wiwa, Aki Sasamoto, Joey Skaggs, Federico Solmi, and Claudix Vanesix.

Conversation between artist Gary Simmons and exhibition curators Jadine Collingwood, René Morales, and Franklin Sirmans will kick off exhibition and Art Week opening and focus on how Simmons and his work have played a key role in situating questions of race, class, and identity at the center of contemporary art discourse. Simultaneous interpretation into American Sign Language, Haitian Creole, and Spanish will be provided. Visitors will gain a holistic understanding of the complex and profoundly moving work of this groundbreaking and influential artist.

Aqua is known for presenting vibrant and noteworthy international art programs with a particular interest in supporting young and established galleries with strong emerging and mid-career artists. This year, Aqua Art Miami will be collaborating with Black & White Project Space, a non-profit art organization run by Ukrainian National Tatyana Okshteyn to provide a space in the courtyard of the Aqua Hotel in support of “Buy An Icon, Save A Life In Ukraine,” a conceptual project by Ukrainian artists Sonia Atlantova and Olexander Klimenko.

Pérez Art Museum Miami’s Caribbean Cultural Institute kicks off a research and exhibition project focusing on performance art practices from the Caribbean and its diasporas, with a two-part program showcasing the rich creative and artistic contributions of Caribbean and Latinx artists to the American avant-garde.

“¡Fenomenal! Rompeforma 1989–1996,” is a documentary about Rompeforma: Maratón de Baile, Performance & Visuales, an experimental dance and performance festival that took place in Puerto Rico from 1989–1996. Screening  to be be followed by a conversation with film co-directors, pioneer choreographers, and performance artists from Puerto Rico, Merián Soto and Viveca Vázquez.

Vejigante decrépito is a live performance by Puerto Rican visual artist, dancer, choreographer, performer, and Rompeforma participant Awilda Sterling Duprey drawing on the figure of the vejigante, a folkloric character typical of Puerto Rican carnival celebrations.
