YPO’s Annual Gala will celebrate The Roaring Twenties with “Hats, Spats and Pearls” on October 25 at the Four Seasons Hotel.

The decade of 1920’s were a time of artistic and cultural expression as economic prosperity and modern technology gave rise to an era of new music, new fashion and new way of life. Miami’s most engaged philanthropic leaders will join the Young Patronesses of the Opera (YPO ) at the Four Seasons Hotel to celebrate the energetic exuberance of that era at the gala Hat Spats and Pearls . . . A Toast To The Roaring ‘20’s.

Patricia Scerpella, Laurel Auerbacher, Lisa Wheeler, Lori Thomas, Lise-Marie Wertanzl and Amal Kabbani

The annual YPO Gala – now in its 59th year – is considered among Miami’s oldest and most prestigious black tie affairs. This elegant soiree, organized by Lisa Wheeler, President of YPO, and Gala Chairs Laurel Auerbacher, Amal Kabbani, Patti Scerpella, Lori Thomas and Lise-Marie Wertanzl, will feature live entertainment, dancing, and a sumtuous four-course dinner to raise funds for YPO’s music education programs.

The Gatsby-style party will evoke the excitement of the era as many spirited YPO members and guests forego traditional ball gowns and black-tie attire for imaginative costume designs which reflect the era of flappers, starlets, gangsters and aristocrats.

During a cocktail hour, guests will enjoy an inspired silent auction, followed by dinner, dancing to the 8-piece band, Manhattan Music, and entertainment by the internationally acclaimed singers Poperazzi.

“The Roaring Twenties were a time of tremendous progress economically, socially and culturally,” said Lisa Wheeler. “We hope that the optimism and energy of The Jazz Age will inspire Miami’s distinguished arts patrons to support children’s opera and music education. “Wheeler continued “We are so grateful to the sponsors of the Hats Spats and Pearls Gala, which include patrons Swanee and Paul DiMarie, Bunny Bastian, Gibralter Private Banking, The Betsy Hotel and Account Control Technology.”

“YPO is the only organization in South Florida which brings live opera to elementary schools at no cost,” said Wheeler. “Our annual fundraising gala and the grants we procure are our only means of funding these educational programs. Hats Spats and Pearls will not only be an unforgettable evening, it will also provide critical support to arts in our community.”

About YPO

Founded almost 60 years ago in 1955, YPO is a volunteer group of 100 active and dedicated women who advocate for music and opera education for children in South Florida. Proceeds raised at Hat Spats and Pearls will fund music and opera educational programs. Every year, YPO presents a workshop for more than 500 Girl Scouts, and a professional development workshop on opera in the classroom for 150 Miami-Dade and Broward County teachers. YPO also brings professional children’s opera performances to more than 30,000 elementary students annually. This year YPO will expand its musical outreach program to children who are hospitalized.

In addition, YPO also presents a national voice competition for aspiring young opera singers. This year, the YPO/FGO 28th National Voice Competition will be held at The Colony Theater in Miami Beach, April 16-18, 2015.
