Informed Families Honors Members of the Order Of The Golden Claw Society

Here Ye! Here Ye! While digging into mouth-watering claws, delicious cole slaw and world famous key lime pie at Joe’s Stone Crab, representatives from some of Miami’s most philanthropic organizations were recognized for their leadership and financial support of Informed Families and its mission of helping kids grow up safe, healthy and drug free.

Twenty guests enjoyed the dinner, which recognized the esteemed Order of the Golden Claw Society “Plank Owners,” a term used to describe an individual who is a member of the crew of a United States Navy ship present at the ship’s first commissioning. Those honored and inducted into the Order of the Golden Claw Society include Baptist Health South Florida, represented by Phillis Oeters; the Batchelor Foundation, represented by Nancy & Jon Batchelor and Anna & Jonathan Batchelor, Jr.; EWM, represented by Anita & Ron Shuffield; Florida Blue, represented by Maria Baluja and daughter Kelly Baluja, Beth & Mike Finkle; Gulliver Schools, represented by Dottie & John Krutulis. Plank Owners were given sashes and proclamations honoring their commitment and generosity while making them “responsible for guarding our villages and making the high seas and land a safe place for children.”

Other guests included President & CEO Peggy Sapp; Board Chair Neca Logan; and Advisory Board Member Mary Eaton with sister, Barbara Taylor, and daughter-in-law and Informed Families Board Member Molly Osendorf.

Planning is in full swing for the 30th Annual Dinner at Joe’s, scheduled for May 18 when Informed Families’ guests will enjoy delicious stone crabs without the wait, celebrity sightings, and no boring speeches – just good times while supporting the important cause of preventing drug use and underage drinking. The event will be co-chaired by Phillis Oeters and Anita & Ron Shuffield. Contact Esther Davila at edavila@informedfamilies.org for information.
