It’s All Overtown… So Chic in White Heat

Benefits Alonzo Mourning Charities and Overtown Youth Center

Saturday, March 15, 2008
Overtown Youth Center
450 N.W. 14th Street, Miami
305-349-1204, ext. 228

Hosted by Alonzo and Tracy Wilson Mourning, this Party with a Purpose is the annual fundraiser for the Overtown Youth Center, held right at the Center in downtown Miami. Last year’s gala, “A Celebration of the Islands,” paid tribute to the cultural diversity of Miami and showcased a culinary menu that reflected the Caribbean provided by some of South Florida’s best restaurants. Tito Puente, Jr. was the special musical performer, and the event raised more than $1 million that directly benefited the students who participate in the programs offered by the Center.

Guests this year will experience a sophisticated South Beach kind of night, glam and chic, but intimate enough to not lose sight of the purpose. Tickets are $100, and complimentary value parking is provided.

To buy tickets or learn about sponsorship opportunities, call Nile Patrick at 305-349-1204, ext. 228.

About Alonzo Mourning Charities

The mission of Alonzo Mourning Charities is to provide support and services that enhance the lives of youth of promise. In ten short years AMC has raised more than $6 million for at-risk children, and the organization continues to make great strides towards funding programs and centers that help change lives.

Under the AMC umbrella are two very important programs for youths. Tracy Wilson Mourning’s Honey Shine Mentoring Program provides experiences that nurture the mind, body and soul of young women between the ages of 8 and 18 who live in at-risk situations.

The second program is the Overtown Youth Center, a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of Miami’s inner city, that offers educational enrichment, recreational and wellness activities, mentoring, literacy initiatives, parent enrichment classes and life skills training for youth living in the Overtown area. The 18,000 square feet facility developed by Martin Z. Margulies and Alonzo Mourning in 2003 features a gymnasium with a full-size indoor basketball court; locker rooms with showers; classrooms; computer lab; game room; adjacency to a public park with access to athletic fields and swimming pool; and direct access to the public library (also located within the public park).
