Marilyn Monroe Opening

Gallery brings iconic figure to Coral Gables

Pop artist Leonardo Hidalgo and curator Gloria Porcella

Marilyn Monroe – Tribute to a Female Icon group exhibition kicked-off with a successful opening and reception at Galleria Ca’d’oro in Coral Gables. Two hundred guests mingled amongst Miami and Italian dignitaries, renowned artists, art enthusiasts, Marilyn fans and collectors.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Consul General of Italy, Adolfo Barattolo and his wife Federica Barattolo, celebrated pop artist Leonardo Hidalgo, curator Gloria Porcella, Italian fashion designer Renato Balestra, Italian Chamber of Commerce president, Gianluca Fontani, and celebrity DJ from Rome Corrado Rizza.

Guests enjoyed a live art performance by Italian artist, Erika Calesini, who channeled Monroe’s essence while costumed in the iconic white dress. The artist struck numerous poses above a fan, emulating the famous scene from the movie “Seven Year Itch”.

The exhibition showcases a life-size bronze sculpture of Marilyn wearing the iconic white dress by artist Seward Johnson; an unusually lanky rendition by Valentina De Martini; a naked Marilyn immersed in color by Pablo Echaurren; a pop interpretation by Ludmilla Radchenko alongside the Marilyn series produced by Andy Warhol; a decollage by Mimmo Rotella; two witty compositions by Leonardo Hidalgo; a painting with a real black diamond on the famous Marilyn beauty mark by Enrico di Nocolantonio; and a soft and sensual pink portrait of Marilyn painted by Monica Casali. The tribute to the American starlet comes to life in a 28-work exhibition, including paintings, photographs, videos, and sculptures.

Marilyn Monroe – Tribute to a Female Icon made its successful debut in June 8th, 2012 at the nineteenth-century Palazzo Wedekind in Piazza Colonna, in Rome, only a few days after what would have been Marilyn’s 86th birthday. For this symbolic reason, curators Gloria Porcella and Lamberto Petrecca chose the months of June and August for the double launch of the exhibition.

The exhibition will be on view through Wednesday, October 10th, 2012 at Galleria Ca’d’oro, located at 135 San Lorenzo Avenue in Coral Gables.
