Over 400 guests celebrated Miami’s rich kaleidoscope of faith and culture at the MCCJ Silver Medallion gala at the Four Seasons Hotel. Patricia Thorpe, MCCJ Chair presented the prestigious medallions to Humanitarian honorees Trish and Daniel Bell, Juan del Busto, Albert Dotson, Jr. and Patricia Papper, Clergy honorees Rabbi Herbert Baumgard, Bishop Agustin Roman, Reverend Priscilla Felisky Whitehead and Public Service honoree Alberto Carvalho. Since 1946 MCCJ has recognized leaders in the business, religious and corporate communities with Silver Medallions, and 29 past recipients, proudly wearing their medallions, attended this year’s Humanitarian Dinner. An MCCJ Humanitarian Dinner always holds surprises and this year was no exception. The powerful and diverse group of singers of Unity on the Bay Choir welcomed the guests. Original works of art used as centerpieces have become a trademark of the event. Internationally acclaimed glass artist Rob Stern, created colorful intertwined sculptures that were sold to raise funds for MetroTown, a summer human relations and leadership program for teens. Dinner Chair Maria C. Alonso, greeted the guests, WPLG-TV anchor Calvin Hughes, event emcee, masterfully kept the program on schedule. and the clergy honorees embraced the spirit of the evening when they lit the unity candle that concluded the program.
