See Myths and Legends by multi-media artist Sheila Elias at a pre-Art Basel opening hosted by Deepak Sony, head of the Vontobel Swiss Wealth Advisors. This series by Elias is a new vision, executed on the iPad and then enlarged on canvas. Both challenging and complex, the series explores painting and layering using today’s digital tools. Ms. Elias has worked in Los Angeles, New York and her native Chicago, and her work is in numerous collections around the world, including the Brooklyn, Bass and Lowe Art Museums. Elias has also exhibited at The Louvre in Paris. Somewhere – Anywhere, a mid-career survey, has just been published. Great Masters brings together international masterworks by some of the world’s most notorious contemporary artists of the 20th century, including Jesus Soto, Alejandro Otero, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Bernar Venet, Agostino Bonalumi and Victor Vasarely. Also featured are Biennale de Paris award winner Francisco Salazar, mathematically precision pieces from Italy-based Victor Lucena, experimentation with monochromatic red paintings by Bernard Aubertin and Conscious Paintings by Carlos Cabeza. The 24 museum-caliber pieces will be on view at O. Ascanio Gallery from November 25 to December 17, open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The opening reception, sponsored by Polar Beer, is free and open to the public.

Miami’s Dot Fiftyone Gallery, in collaboration with Foster Catena Gallery in Buenos Aires, will present Poetics of Expansion: Nine Views of Contemporary Argentine Photography. The exhibition features a selection of works by emerging and established artists. Far from a classical notion of photography as a means of register, these artists and their approaches indicate the expansion of a support in a process of redefinition. The work on exhibit here in Miami –a crucial center for the interaction of art from around the world– participates in current debates on photography in general, questioning its possibilities and scope. The gallery hours are Mon – Fri from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sat 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
