City Year Miami’s annual “Paint the Town Red” Gala is one of South Florida’s premier social events, uniting hundreds of influential community leaders to celebrate the achievements of 212 young men and women who have pledged a year of service to support students in Miami’s highest-need schools. Wearing their signature red jackets, City Year Miami AmeriCorps Members serve as tutors, mentors and role models to more than 6,500 students in 18 Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

AmeriCorps Members arrive before the first bell rings and stay until the last student goes home – helping to transform a school’s culture with passion, energy and idealism. Working side-by-side with teachers, they use research-based tools and techniques to help students improve their attendance, behavior and, of course, performance in Mathematics and English.

City Year is the only national organization placing full-time, trained young adults in schools to provide individual attention to at-risk students and help them stay in school and on track to succeed.

City Year Miami’s Gala provides critical funding needed to sustain and enhance program offerings that directly benefit kids in school communities across South Florida. It is hoped that you will join City Year Miami for a night of joyful celebration at the JW Marriott Marquis on Saturday, November 15, with support from Sazon, Goya, Bacardi, Morgan Stanley, Chowdhury Family Foundation, Inc., Blanca Commercial Real Estate, Patricia Castellanos-Cornish and Tom Cornish, Greenspoon Marder Law, Greenberg Traurig, Marsh & McLennan, USI, Miami Marlins, Beauty Schools of America and Residence Realty, Inc.

Your participation in this signature event will help City Year continue to change the world – one child, one school and one community at a time.

About the City Year

City Year’s mission is to build democracy through citizen service, civic leadership and social entrepreneurship. It is through service that we can demonstrate the power and idealism of young people, engage citizens to benefit the common good, and develop young leaders of the next generation. City Year is wholly focused on fighting the national dropout crisis. We have committed to leverage the talent, energy and idealism of corps members to serve as tutors, mentors and role models in schools to help students stay on track – and get back on track – to graduate.
