Pulitzer Prize Winning Photographers Discuss the Past, Present and Future of Photojournalism
HistoryMiami Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate located in the heart of downtown Miami, hosted a select group of the finest journalists in the country. In a riveting panel discussion with Pulitzer Prize winners Deanne Fitzmaurice and Patrick Farrell, and moderator Maggie Steber, the panel discussed the past, present, and future of photojournalism. Farrell told the packed house that “it is as important now as ever before.” The crowd included an impressive group of journalists including celebrity photographer Manny Hernandez, the Associated Press’ Lynn Sladkey, and the Miami Herald’s Al Diaz. The panel coincides with the Museum’s exhibition “Newsman: The Photojournalism of Tim Chapman.” Highlights of the show include images of the famous like Mohammad Ali to the infamous like the Cocaine Cowboys. Other images include the Mariel boatlift, Hurricane Andrew and the Jonestown Massacre. The exhibition will be on display at HistoryMiami Museum through August 14th. The panel was presented by the HistoryMiami Center for Photography, a program funded in part by the Knight Foundation. Partners for the event included the Miami Herald, Leica Store Miami, Photo Workshops Miami, and the Brooklyn Brewery.
