Signature National YoungArts Week Program
Performances, Readings and Exhibitions - January 4 – 9
This landmark 35th National YoungArts Week, approximately 170 YoungArts Finalists selected from a record 12,000+ applications will participate in an intensive program of master classes and workshops with internationally renowned artists including MacArthur Genius Tarell McCraney, The Royal Ballet of London’s Sara Lamb, celebrated contemporary visual artist Mickalene Thomas and Academy Award winning filmmaker Doug Blush, to name a few.
“For 35 years, YoungArts has been offering emerging artists the support and encouragement they need to follow their dreams of becoming professional artists. During this time, we have developed a strong alumni network of more than 20,000 artists, many of whom value the encouragement they received at a young age so much so that they are now paying-it-forward as YoungArts master teachers,” stated Lisa Leone, Vice President of Artistic Programs for YoungArts.
Representing the nation’s most promising artists in 10 disciplines, performing arts Finalists will share their talents with the public from January 4 – 7 at the New World Center. On Thursday, January 7, a special late-night jazz set will also take place at El Tucan—Miami’s newest addition to the live music scene. The focus returns to the YoungArts Campus on January 8 for writers’ readings at the Jewel Box and a vernissage of works by the visual arts, photography and design finalists in the YoungArts Gallery, before punctuating YoungArts Week on Saturday, January 9, with master classes by 2016 Arison Award Recipients, Rosie Perez, Robert Wilson and Tony Yazbeck, and the annual Backyard Ball gala and after-party.
