Manny Hernandez Shoots Art Basel

Acclaimed Miami photographer Manny Hernandez worked the Art Basel scene like the star that he is, with access to some of Miami’s most exclusive events. In this glam-filled gallery, Manny shows images from Art Basel and Design Miami’s vernissages, the Cartier Dome, Marilyn Manson’s dark Miami debut in the Design District, an ultra-exclusive Design Miami dinner at the home of Miami power broker and art collector Craig Robins, and the annual Art Nexus party that marked the opening of the Related Group’s Philippe Starck masterpiece, Icon Brickell.

SocialMiami’s Hellmund was on the Art Basel scene covering some significant Miami events. One hundred of Art Basel’s most elite attendees were hosted to a luncheon and preview of Mark di Suvero at Fairchild by collectors Lin Lougheed and Aaron Fleischman, and Lisa Dennison of Sotheby’s. Guests previewed di Suvero’s enormous steel sculptures which have been installed among the world famous flowering trees and vines, lush rainforest and bustling butterfly garden. The MOCA party, hosted by Vanity Fair and Grey Goose, was a hip Basel bash. The Miami event marked the first major U.S. museum exhibition of Albanian-born artist Anri Sala from the 1990s to the present. Later that same evening, Hellmund journeyed to Galerie Adler Bertin-Toublanc for the opening night reception of a dynamic group show that featured 49 artists. The following day, Hellmund got up early for the Rubell Family Collection breakfast, which marked the opening of 30 Americans. The annual Basel breakfast featured an artsy and edible display of cereal, milk and coffee, and brought out a who’s who from the international art world.

Photographer Mitchell Zachs covered China Gold, 2008!, a cutting-edge Chinese Contemporary Art Exhibition. The exhibition was co-curated by Stephanie Walczak. Collectors, Dealers, artists from Miami and abroad visited the show, which was on display at the chic SoBe condo of acclaimed collector Anthony Japour.

Tastemakers Showcase
Ornare Showroom, Miami Design District
Photographer Freddy Rozen shot an Art Basel event at Ornare, the Brazilian premiere interior design manufacturer, as they celebrated twelve acclaimed architects and designers with a 10-day exhibit entitled Tastemakers Showcase. In a swanky launch party, the stylish Ornare Showroom unveiled Marcello Aniello’s marvelous photography installation to a sophisticate crowd of jet-setters and Miami power players.

Binsen JG Mejia shot this very special Art Basel event, which was presented and curated by renowned art connoisseur and collector Oswaldo Agudelo, and featured an exhibition of fine artists and a concert by the seductive musical group, Vino Tinto. Exhibited artists included A/k/rona, Eduardo Naranjo, Eloisa Castellanos, Fernando Cifuentes Soro, Gersain Muriel, Jorge Jimenez Deredia, Gustavo Duque, Helbert Ortiz, Marjolein van der Sluis, Paolo Cordano, Pilar Cocero, Raquel Glottman and Ruperto Cabrera.

Biltmore Hotel and Tommy Hilfiger/Vanity Fair
Miami Photographer Seth Browarnik shot two high profile Art Basel events. New Basel co-directors Annette Shönholzer and Mark Speigler held the first official Art Basel event at the Biltmore Hotel. The Art Basel Miami Beach Junior and Senior Host Committees came out in full force to welcome the Swiss directors and other Art Basel management including Sasha Nitikin, Lauren Taschen, Stephanie Reed and Philipa Suhr. Browarnik also shot the Tommy Hilfiger and Vanity Fair event. The duo, along with Free Arts NYC, Simon De Pury and Todd Eberle celebrated American photography with a chic soiree attended by the world’s top art collectors and fashion’s leading designers including Marc Jacobs, Esteban Cortazar and of course, Tommy Hilfiger. More than 500 artists, designers, socialites, and art and fashion enthusiasts including Ally Hilfiger, Katie Lee Joel, Ingrid Casares, Vincent de Paul and Cynthia Rodriguez enjoyed beats by Paul Sevigny. Upon departure, guests received a limited edition tote featuring photographs by Jeremy Blake.
