FAN Celebrates 15 Years
(FAN) celebrated its 15th Anniversary by hosting its annual awards luncheon and membership meeting in event-making style with the presentation of $200,000 in grant awards. Thirty-four arts organizations received grants at the anniversary luncheon, held at the HIlton Miami Downtown. To date, FAN has awarded close to $3 million to 95 Miami-Dade County arts organizations and to more than 400 programs in the disciplines of dance, music, theater and visual arts.
In partnership with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, FAN presented and additional $25,000 for FAN’s Knight New Work Award to New World Symphony’s An Opening Fanfare.

South Florida’s “Miracle Makers”
The Women’s Committee of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami hosted its 11th Annual Miracle Maker’s Luncheon and Fashion Show at the Ritz Carlton, South Beach. Co-chaired by Norma Jean Abraham and Irene Korge, the sold out event honored this year’s Miracle Makers who were recognized for their outstanding community service and philanthropy: Cathy Blank, Lauren Book, Lourdes Castillo de la Peña, Sonia Gibson, Louise Harms, Lauren Harrison Genovese, Nina Hart, Ingrid Hoffman, Filemon Lopez, Emily Marquez-Dulin, Richard Milstein, Joe Pena, Stephanie Sayfie, Ana Veiga Milton. CBS 4’s Shannon Hori served as emcee as guests enjoyed a collection of Spring fashions presented by Neiman Marcus and met Victoria Villalba and her little sister Sari who moved the crowd to tears with the story of their Big Brothers Big Sisters match.

Oscar de la Renta
Famed fashion designer Oscar de la Renta lured a large and luxurious crowd to Miami’s Hotel Intercontinental with a fashion show and personal appearance to benefit Sur Futuro Foundation, an organization that fights poverty in the Dominican Republic.
Guests – who included Toby Ansin, Elysze Held, Ana Somarriba, Yolanda Berkowitz, Jennifer Valoppi, Swanee DiMare, Stephanie Sayfie Aagaard, Trish Bell and many more – were invited to sip Rum Brugal cocktails and enjoy filet mignon as they were dazzled by the designer’s 2011 pre-fall collection. His creations came in bold oranges, bright greens, shell pinks and magical blacks, each one igniting gasps throughout the crowd and a standing ovation after the finale.
