One year ago, Carnival Center for the Performing Arts opened its doors, bringing to life the 20-year-long dream of South Florida arts patrons, artists and civil and government leaders.

In its first year, the Center has housed performances by amazingly talented artists such as Gloria Estefan, Jose Carreras, Bernadette Peters, Andy Garcia, Olivia Newton-John and Quincy Jones; best-selling Latin pop stars, including Alejandro Sanz, Willy Chirino and Roberto Carlos; comedians, such as Lily Tomlin, George Carlin and Kathy Griffin; theater works; family shows; superb dance presentations, including Swan Lake; Broadway shows, including Wicked; and celebrated works from its resident companies — Concert Association of Florida, Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet and New World Symphony. Even more impressive than its extensive list of world-renowned performers and artists is the unparalleled culture that the Center has made available to South Florida. The opening of the Center has been a catalyst in creating the thriving cultural center that Miami is today.

On October 17, 2007, Carnival Center will be celebrating its one-year anniversary with a spectacular fundraising event, which will further solidify the Center as a cornerstone in Miami’s cultural rebirth and will celebrate the impact that it has had on the community. The event will feature the debut Miami performance by internationally renowned tenor Juan Diego Flórez, a gala dinner on the stage of the Ziff Ballet Opera House, a dessert reception and a chic after party. The theme of the event is “Take Center Stage,” and guests who attend will receive the star treatment and experience an evening in the life of a performer at Carnival Center. Proceeds from the event will help to support a wide array of artistic, educational and community programs at the Center throughout the coming year.

The First Anniversary Celebration is the Center’s largest fundraising event this year. Tickets are still available. For more information or to purchase tickets for the Carnival Center First Anniversary Celebration, visit www.carnivalcenter.org or call 786-468-2250.
